Important announcement from the Council Chair of the College of Dietitians of Alberta
Dear Regulated Members and Stakeholders,
Doug Cook, Executive Director and Registrar of the College of Dietitians of Alberta, has provided Council with his notice of resignation effective November 30, 2025.
Doug joined the College in 2008 as Executive Director and Registrar, bringing experience working with other healthcare professions. Over the past 17 years, Doug has been an unwavering advocate for the dietetics profession and assisted in raising awareness of the profession, promoting Dietitians as an integral part of the health team. Under his leadership, Doug has helped Council navigate several legislative changes, including the expansion of protected titles to include ‘Nutritionist’. He has also overseen the modernization of many application and registration processes at the College.
Council is extremely grateful to Doug for his work implementing and operationalizing Council’s Strategic Plans. Of note, Doug is proud of the work the College is doing on reconciliation and he supported member stakeholders to develop a Reconciliation Standard of Practice.
Doug has also represented Alberta Dietitians within key networks like the Alberta Federation of Regulated Health Professions and the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies. He has maintained a strong working relationship with the University of Alberta’s Dietetic Specialization Program, serving on several committees and contributing to the development of the Alberta Internationally Educated and Return-to-Practice Dietetic Bridging Program.
Council is creating a succession planning committee that will work with a search firm to begin the process of hiring a new registrar. The plan is to have a new Executive Director and Registrar announced by the end of Summer and in place by the Fall. This will allow for orientation into the position before Doug’s departure from the College in November.
We are incredibly grateful to have had Doug Cook at the helm of the College for the last 17 years and wish him well in his future endeavors.
