Council

The council is responsible for the governance and management of the regulatory and business affairs of the College. The council establishes the mission, vision and policy direction for the College. The council also hears appeals referred to it under the Health Professions Act.

The council is comprised of no fewer than five appointed regulated members, including a chair and chair-elect. To increase and maintain public transparency and accountability, the legislation requires that 50% of the council are public members.

College of Dietitians of Alberta Council composition is five (5) regulated member positions and five (5) public member positions.

Laura White, Chair

Laura is a settler dietitian living in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) within Treaty 6 Territory. She completed her dietetic training at the University of Alberta, holds a post-graduate certificate in Food Security from Toronto Metropolitan University, and earned a Master’s in Nutrition for Global Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her international dietetic experience includes work in infant and childhood malnutrition, as well as tuberculosis and malnutrition research. Passionate about decolonizing dietetics, Laura has spent over a decade working in Indigenous health. This includes direct work with the Blood Tribe in Treaty 7, providing pediatric-focused services to the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council member Nations in Treaty 8, and, most recently, supporting First Nations across Treaty 6, 7, and 8 in her role as Regional Nutritionist with Indigenous Services Canada.

Laura enjoys spending time in the garden, synchronized skating, volunteering with food focused non-profits, and making her way through the Ultimate Alberta Bucket List with friends and family.

Allison Fielding, Chair-Elect

Allison Fielding, MHS, RD, is a senior healthcare leader dedicated to driving innovation, fostering high-performing teams, and enhancing primary care.

With over a decade of senior leadership experience, she serves as Associate Executive Director at Calgary Foothills PCN, overseeing clinical service delivery, partnerships, evaluation, and privacy. She has expertise in nutrition, primary care, chronic disease management and strategic planning.

A Past Chair and current Council Member of the College of Dietitians of Alberta, Allison also brings governance experience from supporting the PCN board, co-chairing the Calgary Zone PCNs Mental Health Working Group and leading system integration efforts.

Kally Cheung

Kally Cheung serves as a Public Health Nutrition Provincial Lead for Alberta Health Services, where she provides leadership for initiatives aimed at enhancing food environments, addressing food insecurity, and preventing chronic diseases. Her professional journey began in retail food service management. Following her internship, Kally gained extensive experience in a variety of clinical and community settings across both rural and urban Alberta. Her practice has encompassed pediatric nutrition, chronic disease management, and other specialized areas like eating disorder units and diabetes. Kally holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alberta and is a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Caroline McAuley

With over 30 years of experience in all aspects of dietetic practice, Caroline has established a distinguished career. Throughout these years, she has actively participated on numerous NFP boards at local, regional, and provincial levels, significantly contributing to the advancement of these organizations. Additionally, Caroline has been a councillor and Mayor in the Town of Vermilion for over 12 years.

Caroline holds an MBA in Strategic Leadership, bringing a wealth of knowledge and strategic thinking to her roles. Additionally, she is a certified ICD.D practitioner, showcasing her expertise in governance and directorial responsibilities. She currently lives in Sherwood Park with her husband and being close to her 7 grandchildren.

 

Stephanie McAuley (Moriartey)

Stephanie Moriartey, PhD, RD is a healthcare leader with a passion for nutrition, sleep, and chronic disease management. As a Council Member for the College of Dietitians of Alberta, she collaborates with fellow members to support the governance and regulation of the dietetics profession in Alberta.

With nearly 20 years of experience in clinical practice, research, and strategic healthcare leadership, Stephanie has worked extensively in chronic disease management, sleep health, and business development. She has led national healthcare initiatives, developed evidence-based programs, and spearheaded research collaborations with major Canadian institutions.

Driven by the belief that better nutrition and sleep lead to better health outcomes, Stephanie continues to support evidence-based practice, professional education, and innovation in dietetics.

 

Public Members

Cindy Amerongen

Ms. Amerongen holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and Adult Education, and a Bachelor of General Studies, both from Athabasca University, and a Business Administration Marketing Diploma from NAIT. Ms. Amerongen has deep experience in the post-secondary and health sectors with expertise in community engagement, community development, government and stakeholder relations, fundraising, philanthropy, and communications. Board experience includes Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, 2015 Western Canada Summer Games, Community Futures Wood Buffalo, and Athabasca University Academic Council.

She is currently serving as a public member on the College of Dietitians of Alberta Council. Ms. Amerongen is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for contributions to community development.

Louise Mosier

Professionally:

I retired after working for 37 years in the laboratory at the Wetaskiwin Health Center where the last 12 years I supervised the Specimen Procurement and Dispatch part of the lab. I am a retired Cardiology Technologist and certified Laboratory Assistant. I have been a public member on several regulated health profession boards for over 12 years.

Personally:

I live in Wetaskiwin with my husband of 47 years and a much-loved dachshund.

I love camping, going to rodeos, watching sports and reading.

Alexander Phung

Alex lives in Edmonton, Alberta and has been a practicing physiotherapist since 2010 in both public and private practice settings. Alex has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, Bachelor of Commerce from Athabasca University, Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University.

Alex has been a Public member on the Council of the College of Dietitians of Alberta since 2022.
